I've always had good luck with optima and almost as much luck with the Wal-Mart brand. I've heard the autozone brand is good too.

Optima's are made by Johnson Controls Inc., not Interstate.

Optima is not the same company it was a few years ago. I believe they have been outsourced or something to that affect. I had two die on me in a Diesel that where new. I was working on the ole girl and needed them to run the starter a little bit while I diagnosed it. Finally they just wouldnt even hold a charge. Took them back and got two monster Oriely brand batterys and they actually held up better.

On a side note do not hook anything that pulls any kinda amps to the side of a Optima. I had a post explode on one of mine when I had a starter cable hooked to it. My fault completely I did not look real close and it appeared the other cable was hooked up and I was firing a diesel. Boom bitches.

I have an Optima Red Top in my Mustang and it has lasted for many years and the vehicle doesn't get driven much, only started occasionally. I have a Duralast Gold in my truck. The last Duralast Gold lasted about 5 years.

I'm running the same optima for the past 3 years. Thus far not a single problem.. Also the duralast gold or motorcraft seem to be the best. This is coming from 8 years experience working in a parts store..

They are distributed by interstate in some areas.

<-- has an interstate distributor across the street from my office.

Yes, and they are also distributed by East Penn aka Deka. I just didn't want anyone to believe that Interstate made Optima batteries.

I sell plenty of Optimas and see very few failures. The failures that I do see are usually customer abuse.

Optimas, walmart, interstate, duralast are all made by johnson controls, that's why they are ditributed together. I believe motorcrafts is also a johnson product.

On most ford eec cars the computers drwas upwards of .5 ma for 45 min after the car shuts off. If you want to know for sure pull the negative battery cable close all doors, turn off lights etc. And put volt meter inline between negative post and terminal and set to amp reading. Monitor over night. Anything less than half a milli amp is in spec. Any more and it will cause premature battery failure.

Batteries go through a chemical process as the electrons flow through the electrolyte/acid solution and between the plates. Due to the acid content an overstressed battery begins to build lead sulfate on the plates. As you charge the battery th lead sulfate converts back to its normal state. When a battery is repeatedly drained and charged it makes it harder for this process to reverse. Some of the lead sulfate remains on the plates increasing the resistance to electrical current flow thus lowering you cranking amp output. In the same manner some of it shluffs off and settels to the bottom. When enough builds up that it bridges between two cells(plates) it shorts out the battery.
