More a/c questions

OK, my newest project is a 2006 charger. Symptoms are it blows cold while driving (but only 60 degrees after I put a thermometer in the vent while driving around) and it blows 70 while sitting still. I opened it up and it had a full charge so no leaks. We then replaced the compressor with a used unit that we got cheap. While it was open we also replaced the expansion valve and blew out all the lines to check for any blockages. After that we drew a vacuum on it and let it sit for an hour to check for leaks. Filled it up with the proper amount of r134a and it acts the exact same...... These are the readings....

At idle it reads 55psi on the low side and 225-240 on the high side with an ambient temp of 90. When idle is picked up to about 1500rpm the low side drops into the low 30's and the high side stays about the same or maybe goes up to 250.

Any ideas?

25-43psi on the low 165-270 on the high side with 90-100 degree temps

In this kind of heat if your getting 60 out of the vent while driving its probably ok. Sitting still the evaporator wont cool the refrigerant as well which will reduce the cooling. is the low side line cold?

I kinda thought so as well but the other 2 cars in the drive way are blowing 39 degree air out of the vents while driving. Also he said it was performing way better a few weeks ago and has just started this.

Is the fan clutch working properly? Is the evaporator dirty? Is the radiator shroud on there?

Car has electric fans and all seems to be ok there. Although they are not on all the time when the a/c is on. They only kick on as needed to keep the engine cool. Evaporator is clean as well.......

seems to be the normal with the high temps and all....were having the same complaints with infiniti owners here at work...

Cooling fans should run when the A/C is on... Condenser is getting too hot while stationary.

I thought that about the cooling fans, otherwise how would you explain cruising the car around 80mph and it not getting any colder?

Did you replace the accumulator/receiver dryer when you had the system open?

do you get enough air to the vents? Dodge has a big problem with recirculating air door, it is get broken and feel down on top of the blower restricting the suction of the blower. it is very easy to check it out, just pull out the blower and look up, if is not that the problem be sure the mod door actuator is work properly

Thanks guys. I have heard about that recirc door issue and will check it out. I did not replace the dryer when it was open. Reguardless the only thing that points to the low side being high at idle is poor condenser cooling. Everything else seems to check out.
