  • 5.8 options: GT40 VS Trick Flow R

    Running a 9:1 compression 351 with an E cam & AFR 185's.

Currently has an edelbrock performer intake, holley 670 street avenger, but I'm leaning towards going EFI.

I've purchased a GT40 tubular upper & lightning lower, but I'm eyeing the TFS R intake with the 75mm opening ("Power range is 1,500-6,500 rpm when used with a 351W lower" per Summit).

Mostly a cruiser, but I'm also interested in wringing out as much power as I can without a cam swap (cam will not come out of the motor in the bay, much tighter than a mustang engine bay), and still being EFI.

Cool factor is considered as well, so if the GT40 being a ford product gets more thumbs up, that carries weight.

I agree the TFS will make more power but you already have the gt40 and it isn't going in a race car. I say paint it green and enjoy the tubes!!

the gt40 w lowers have gotten ridiculously priced, I have a lead on a decent one, but the tfs supports a larger tb without porting and i also like the larger runner for the larger cubes. There definitely isnt anything wrong with the gt40, i just prefer the tfs

Agreed. Another thing the FMS catalog needs more of.

since you already have the gt40 send it to fox lake and get it ported and race welded.

Consider some 1.7 ratio roller rockers to bump up the lift on your e cam.

The 351 lowers don't need as much massaging as the 302's.
I'd have to suggest having Tom Moss do any porting/matching to heads.

And....since top end power is not the target, let the huddled masses look at a GT-40 intake when you pop the hood.

For me this is a no-brainer. The GT-40 isn’t going to be beat down low and the additional top end offered by the TFS is wasted in your application. Here’s a somewhat relevant article and dyno test for your consideration… (TFS in blue - GT40 in red)

Test motor is a 347 with 11.5:1 compression ratio, AFR 185’s and a solid roller XE292R with 254/260 duration (at .050), .621/.627 lift on a 110 lobe separation angle.

                            Read article here.
