  • help please.. fuel pump lost power today

drove perfect all day long in the heat, not one single issue the whole way. 5 hour trip in the rain/humidity/blistering sun. but anywho, so i get to my hometown, pull into little caesers to get a pizza for me and the lady, go back out to the car and turned the key but all it did was crank all the way until my guage dropped all the way to a big fat fucking zero. so i checked all the relays, they all click still. the fuel pump doesnt ""come on"" when i turn the key at all. i checked the inertia switch, it isnt triggered but i gave it a little tap just in case... checked the wiring everywhere, nothing seems fried, all the fuses are good. been reading on some possible fixes, i mean yea even though its a bran spankin new walbro 255 pump that i put in just a couple weeks ago, it could be just that but i woulda thought it would show a sign of goin out somewhere along the long hot ride here...

now,, i been reading up on some stuff... some people sayin that i should just jump the ECC to a ground and that way it will no matter what give the pump power if its still good.. everything else is jsut the norm, check voltages, check wires, relays, etc etc. havent pulled the tank off to look at the pump but lol im really tryin to avoid doin all that again. any clear suggestions?

I just went through the same thing but my pump wasn't a walbro and it lasted around a year. Check voltage with a DVM first, maybe a blown fuse link or the wiring connection on the pump came apart. I made a square hole in the trunk instead of dropping the tank then I patch it with some sheet metal, silicon, screws, and some speed nuts.

get someone to try and start it, while they are cranking the motor use something solid to hit the bottom of the tank in the area where the pump it. If the pump has seized this will sometimes jar it enough to work. If this works you need a new pump again. Other than that the best way to diagnose the problem is to use a voltmeter and check for battery voltage at key on and while cranking at the harness that goes to the tank. Takes all the guess work out of it.

got it runnin,, weird thing is is what was causing it to go out.. heres what happened... got a new battery,, it cranked it up just fine.. well, frove it into town, parked it for a few hours,, came back and wouldnt start.. so i thought it was the alternator then.. everything was getting power, checked everything... found the 2 relays,, both of them on the passenger strut tower... one bein the AC relay, one bein the fuel pump relay... checked them for power also, both good.. now the DUMBEST thing is,,, the new fuel pump relay i bought today looks TOTALLY different than the one in the car,, which is IDENTICAL to the AC relay... so i bought a new AC relay or what looks like it,, plugged it in and it fired right up... how fucking stupid is that?? why would they sell me a fuel pump relay if that aint what it is? because the way i see it,, it should be like this,,, hey,, is your fuel pump not getting power?? hm, well sir try changing out your AC relay and it will fire right up... fucking stupid right? but thats what it was. runs fine now.
