  • My Coupe- Turbo 2.3L or V8?

Just want it says, I have this 85 4 banger coupe and I really dont know what direction I want to go with it.

I like to be diffrent so the Turbo 2.3 sounds good for that. Even more then that I was thinking if I went with the turbo 2.3 I would do a carbed turbo 2.3 to keep it simple and clean. Im not looking to be the fastest out there, Just have a fun fast car that people respect.

On the other hand a V8 is fun to and prob be cheaper to do? But with another V8 ill just be another mustang sitting in line on the strip.

What do you guys think, Just trying to find some direction.

That MF'er is prolly so fast it would be like riding a big giant can of rape named bubba just outta prison set free in a girls college dorm.

If Im not mistaken the transmission in that 2.3 isnt the same as a T5 and the rear end is different so if you went with a 5.0-5.8 ltr, you'd most likely have to swap everything out.

I voted for the V8 but now that I think about it, have fun with the 2.3 until it costs you too much to fool with, then do the V8 swap.

    Just my .02

This is really a no-brainer in my opinion. Carb 302 swap. You can put together a simple H/C/I 302 for $1500 and make 250-300 rwhp with great low end torque and driveability. Something like a good used 5.0 shortblock, GT40/GT40P heads, mild cam of choice, Edelbrock Intake, smallish carb like 550-650 cfm, and full exhaust. End of discussion.

I voted for the v8, I've had 3 Svos and they're defiantly fun but not very reliable lol

I vote turbo2.3, there is nothing better than running away from a 2010 gt500 on the highway or hanging next to bikes on george bush with a 4cyl. They are fun, the rear end is the same and a t5 is a t5. Bellhousing is different but that's nothing. But if you want the same old gt40 setup have fun, that shit is played out.

When I bought my 79 cobra the 2.3 carbed turbo ran good but needed cleaning up . I pulled it , went thru it and put it back in with some upgrades . Ran great and was cool but it just does not have the feel (or thunder)of a v8 . Two months later pulled it , packed it in a crate and put a v8 in its place . I would rather have power then cool factor .

Apparently you have never seen john huber's svo. 79 draw through set ups blow donkey balls and don't hold a candle to a well tuned maf swapped or mega squirted 2.3 turbo set up

Yea I have but I also have a feeling the op has no plan on dropping 10k plus to make a 2.3 run . I have had 5 2.3 turbo cars and they are fun but they are fickle and exspensive .

Ask yourself this, do you like working on your car more or driving it more? If its working on it go 2.3t if its driving go v8
