  • cheapest places for a posi for a 2wd 5.3 silverado

i scored some 3.73 gears and would like to do a posi rear in the truck too... I was told using a 4X4 rear end will be cheap and work? Or is there one o should be looking for out of another 8.5/8.6 10 bolt?

You don't want to use the factory limited slip. They are a fucking time bomb waiting to go off. Get an Eaton or the Yukon limited slip.

What year are you talking about? NBS/NNBS?

Pick up a 14bolt out of a NBS/NNBS, strong, direct swap, disc brakes(if you find one with for cheap) and 1350 yoke(IIRC).

The stock 10 bolts arent too bad if you get an AM posi/limited slip, the G80s cant take much power or sticky tires. Plenty of people have had the stock 10 bolt hold up with a good unit.

Exactly. I installed a detroit trutrac after mine grenaded. Awesome diff, easy install and worth the cash.

Like posted above, the factory LSD's grenade, Charles's did in his Avalanche, we picked up an Auburn at Stan Hopkins and put it in ourselves. When you pick up the diff you will need to specify which series carrier you want based on the gears. I believe the 3.23 and up (3.73's and 4.11's included) require a 3 series, while the 2.73 is a 2 series. Order one online, Stan has a pretty good markup on his there at the shop, as much as I want to support them they had to go through my current rear 5 times to get it right. And it's still not perfect. That is the first time I have had that problem with them in over 10 years. Of course it's on my personal car, all the other rear ends were customer cars.

Yukon makes some pretty good drivetrain parts and their diff's are just like eaton posi's, they use clutches and I believe are rebuildable. The factory diff is a zexel torsion (uses worm gears etc to apply pressure) and the auburn uses conical "clutches" if you will.

Edit: Why do you want a posi anyway, that terd is never going to do anything that it could make use of it!
