  • A/C help

    I have a 98 Ranger w/ 3.0 engine.

My a/c is driving me nuts. When I first turn it on at idle the clutch cycles on and off for about 30 seconds then just stays on and gets the truck nice and cool.

Problem is above idle like at highway speeds the damn thing cycles on and off constantly and more poor little gutless Ranger can hardly keep up with traffic. The gas peddle is literally half-way to the floor.

I hooked up a cheapy gauge from autozone and at idle with the compressor spinning it reads just under 50psi which is in the green zone. When the compressor cycles off it goes to about 65psi which is in the red zone. Around 3000RPM it's at 45PSI

Looks like it's shade tree fixed. I drained a bunch out got it down to about 38psi at around 2000RPM and it no longer cycles and my truck has much more power now. That compressor must have been trying like hell to turn a bunch of pressure.
