So here's the deal. My brother has a 99 Ford Taurus that is usually a great runn'n car. However, in the past couple of weeks it's developed quite the weird problem. From time to time it won't start. However, when it does start it runs just fine.
So here's what we've done.
Any ideas? Willing to try anything. My brother is about 3 hours from home in the small town of Brady Tx and is not in a position to have it towed to a "good" shop for diagnostics. Also, because we're way out here and not at home in DFW I'm relegated to true shade tree mechanic tools. e.g. A simple digital multi-meter and basic hand tools. Near as I can tell we don't have an SES light yet..... (Even if the SES light came on we couldn't read the OBDII code....)
Any help would be greatly appreciated and the winner gets a few cold frosty's w/ me when we get back to DFW.
Thanks!
Darren M.
So here's what we've done.
- Replaced the dpfe
- Replaced the vacuum lines on the dpfe
- Tested the voltage at the fuel pumpe .156 volts. (I think we did that right.)
- Ensured the inertia switch isn't causing problems. (It's in all the way.)
- Ensured all the hoses, wires, etc, look to be connected correctly.
- Ensured there's fuel in the tank.
