  • c4 reliability ?

I have c4 with all the upgraded clutches aand steels. Upgraded bands, servos, and a hardened input shaft. it has a manual reverse valvebody and a nice 3500 stall with antibalooning plates. Will it be able to hang with my 331 if its in the 6.50 range?

Mine lasted around 3 years running a little faster than that.
Low 6's to high 5's and they wont last long even with the best shit.

Running 6.40 with a Dynamic Mighty Mite M2 I would only get 50 to 60 runs before the dreaded 2-3 shift flare. The tranny saw minimal street time but just wouldnt hold up past 60 runs on nitrous. I even took it to Joels on Joy in Michigan (rebuilder for Performance automatic) and still had the same results. After the 4'th freshen up I just opted for a Rossler TH400 and never looked back... Car now runs 5.60's and hasent missed a beat!!

I have seen 800rw cars go 140 passes and the clutches still look new. I have recently seen more than that (power wise) and upon inspection not a clutch had slipped. It had an input shaft with some good spline twist, and a convertor sprag that was hating life (at its limits), but clutches looked BRAND new. It all boils down to what you put in them and who builds them.

Wish I could have found that magic tranny... Didnt seem to matter what was dont to mine it just wouldnt hold up...... (Note)..On motor the tranny worked perfect but on a 225 hit.. it was out the window (on the 2-3 shift... My 7500 shifts would flare to 9k plus.

To the OP... RPM is what kills the C4 not power as I understand... Keep the RPM reasonable and it will last you a long time. Also when cruzing keep the rpm reasonable.. aka.. Stay off the highway and you should be fine.

Everything you could do to a C4. It made about 300 passes before 2-3 flare. Stay off the transbreak!
Ask Boosted about 5 sec cars and C-4's. They dont last long.

that doesnt mean it dosnt happen. Yes, they require more attention than some other trans at that level.

Yeah, keep the rpms down and it should last. I ran a PA Competition C4 for 3 years running high 10s on the gas and high 11s on motor without ever touching it. Once I stepped up to 6.50s though, I would rebuild about once a year for piece of mind. Keep in mind, I was racing minimum 10 passes a month during that time.
