  • Valve seals with heads on the motor

302 smokes a little puff on startup so I figure valve seals are bad. How much of a pain is it to change them out with the heads on the car? What spring compressor is best?

    What kind of springs?

There's a 9$ tool made by lisle that they sell at Oreilly's that works good as long as the springs aren't crazy. Once you get the proper combo of shims (flat washers), it's pretty easy.

Should be pretty easy. Just remember to pressurize the cylinder so you don't drop a valve. That always sucks. I'm not sure how old your motor is, but if it's got that much mileage on it, it may be a good idea to slap a new set of springs on it while you've got it apart.

Agreed , and make sure the car is not in gear when you pump up the cylinders with air . It can make for an interesting time if you don't . Its very easy .

I've also used a length of cotton rope pushed into the chamber and compressing it with the pistmon
