  • Need a 4R70W Guru

I had my son's 1996 transmission rebuilt (4R70W) by a national transmission shop, but they refuse to warranty it because it was a carry in and I used my own parts. I had them rebuild the transmission and install a TransGo shift kit. Since the transmission was installed in the car it will not ship properly at wide open throttle. Everything else seems fine except the shift at WOT and I can't get the SCT to raise the shift points.

I need a reputable person that can fix the shifting problem and not charge me an arm and a leg.

I live in Irving, so it would be a plus if they were located in the area, but I am not opposed to driving a bit to get it right.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I bet what's happening is not a problem with the tranny. The shift kit is changing the learned values that haven't been compensated in tune. SCT usually tunes TP vs. MPH vs. slip. The PCM probably thinks the torque converter is slipping and not engaging the clutch. Also, it's going to kill the shift if it bumps the rev limiter. Are you still using the stock converter? I would consult SCT. And I've dealt with SCT for years. Never had a problem getting a tune file updated. They sent me a new tune file (for free) based off of my datalogs when I installed my 10" 3,800 stall converter. Torque multiplication factor was a lot higher than the stock converter. And it softened the shift feel and screwed up the shift timing. The transmission tune had to be tweaked. **And I hope you realize that SCT bumps shift pressure in all of their Automatic tunes. If you are running that tune along with the aftermarket shift kit, then are toasting those solenoids. Line pressure is probably through the roof after the torque converter clutch engages. And just in case you didn't already know, don't ever shift into o/d at WOT. That overdrive band will shoot you the finger if you do it too many times.
