  • two Questions, gear drive, and quarts for fusion

First is the easiest, what oil shall I use in my wife's 09 4 banger Fusion and how many quarts.

Second, My F100's 347 has a gear drive system. What is the benefit/disadvantage of having this over a chain drive. This is a cruiser that doesnt see the track as much as alot of yalls do. Jim and I are planing on replacing the demon 750 mechanical secondary with a Holley 670 street avenger. Then we want to replace the .600 lift comp cam with something more manageable and have more low end torque. Just wanting some thoughts.

Paul here is the deal. You see Tanner being Swat and 5 0 means you need to relate to him in donut speak.

Tanner why do you think the cam (cinnamon twist) in the your engine (bread oven) is too lumpy? Does it make you slow and groggy out of the gate or do you just want a little less twist so it makes you more predictable and less sleepy? Also why do you think your carb (milk pitcher) is the wrong size, is it flooding out or just misfiring? Any smoke (diarrhea) out of your tailpipe when you give it a lot of gas (milk) or is clean. Also could you have a flat lobe (bread didnt rise properly) or a bent push rod maybe? Oh and I can not help you with the gear drive. I have heard they are harder on the engine since there is no give what so ever. Not sure I would change it just to change it though.

LMAO!!! well put king! I see the sugary glazed like at the end of the whole. I think my entire issue is indeed the timing. If I get the timing on the dizzy and gear drive squared away, my backfiring thru carb (no smoke what so ever), laggy acceleration would be gone. Just trying every angle and getting yalls opinion. Bullitt, I just think a smaller lift cam would make the powerband more drivable and torquey. Just my thoughts.

Why not just a double roller, Tanner?

A double roller timing chain is essentially two timing chains on the same sprocket. It allows a little bit of flexibility (compared to a gear drive, lol), but is still way sturdier than a standard gearset. It should also have lower friction than a standard gearset, and far less than a gear drive, and it should have (but doesn't always have) 3 keyways to adjust timing. They're more expensive up front, but they're hard to beat for a street car, in my opinion. Gear drives are way tougher, and way more accurate.

Plus, gear drives don't break. In my experience at least. I will say it's overkill for a street motor. I'll buy you a brand new double roller and trade you the gear drive, if it's for a SBC.

                        Fuck I'm an idiot.
