The only parts I've broke on my car from abuse (not my wreck) was a shift fork and this.

Found the problem....
A ring gear bolt got caught in the teeth of the ring gear and was wedged between the ring and the differential. The bolt was hitting the pinion gear causing a popping sound. ALL of the ring gear bolts were beyond finger loose and one was halfway out. The ring gear was so loose you could wiggle it.
The gears are fine, fluid was full of shavings.
The clutch plates were bent to shit too. Not sure on how that happen. I'll post pics later.
FYI, I did not assemble this rear end and have no idea who installed the gears.
But lol. Damn the luck wtf! Not that hard to use thread locker!
