So my A/C wasn't blowing very cold so we get some r-134a with a gauge and fill it up. Prior to this my compressor would occasionally make noises click on/off. Well the other night it started sounding like I had a supercharger on my car, so I turned it off. Last night a/c clicks on and off and causes the car to surge. I pull over and release A LOT of pressure out of the A/C. Today ON MY WAY TO A JOB INTERVIEW the A/C isn't making noises, so I think problems fixed, NOPE! Halfway to to the interview the A/C starts blowing hot and the compressor won't kick on. I then tried to release some more pressure, thinking that was the problem and now it has what looking like antifreeze coming out. Im thinking the compressor is shot, ideas before i buy a new one?

Pay someone to look at it...never just add r134a or release some out of the system unless you have a gauge manifold hooked up to it and you know what you are looking at.كافر

Idea #2, if the "antifreeze looking stuff" is actually antifreeze find the source of the leak. If, however, the r-134-a you used had a uv dye in it, they trace it back to the leak in your a\c system.
You could have several different types of problems, without a full set of gauges and knowing the exact amount of refrigerant that is in your a\c system, it's hard to properly diagnose what he exact problem is.Comment

not saying there is antifreeze in the a\c system, you stated that it looked to have an antifreeze color substance leaking. It would either be antifreeze from a coolant leak, or A\c dye that's leaked which is usually a florescent green. As far as a compressor or clutch failure, I see a lot of compressor case leaks on the gm stuff and lately have seen more clutch failures on dodge and ford products. I would recommend letting a reputable a\c repair place look at it and diagnose the problem. There are some little details, like how much oil to add, trash (internal component failure) in the system, and so forth that could easily be overlooked, that can cause problems later on. Im going to take it to a place down the street my parents know, hes got 2 shops, since I don't know any "reputable" place(i put it in quotes cause ive had bad experiences with "reputable" places) . he's gonna check it out for $56, hope thats not just looking for a leak and a full A/C system check. And I think it could have been serviced before with that leak detection stuff (dye) because the can I put in didnt have that in itComment

Someone may have put new components on at some point and added oil with uv dye in it, thats all i use. Now that being said Freon is not a consumable, if its low, you HAVE a leak.Comment

You said it was a trans am, right? You will never have a great A/C system. I blew out the a/c on my '98 trans am years ago because, like you, I thought "it was low a can" because it wasnt as cold as I would have liked. Luckily it was under warranty and they actually covered it. Got it back and it cooled just as crappy as it did before. I get a lot of customers with "well is x # years old, I guess it finally got low" I explain that it's a closed system and in a perfect world it would never get low or need to be worked on. I think a lot of it comes from the .99c a can r-12 days when you just topped it off once in a while and didn't bother with a slow leak. If freon cost wasn't so high now, and cars held such a small amount (some as low as 1 lb total capacity) it wouldn't be a big deal to just top them off.Originally posted by Mysticcobrakilla View PostComment
