Adding A/C to LSx Mustang that was gutted. Best options for choosing/locating parts.

So I want to add A/C to the ls-coupe. Car currently has no heater/AC box, no controls, no hoses to the vents, no hoses under the hood, etc. So I figure my best bet is to find someone who is either stripping a fox, has stripped their fox l, a fox in a junkyard that I can strip, etc. What I'd like to know is what all is needed?

From what I can tell the evaporator and heater core are located in a box together with the blower motor. I figure this box probably needs electricity to power the blower and vacuum to control actuator door.

The a/c controls if I remember right are all vacuum modulated? I'd need the controls and probably all the lines that run to the heater/AC box.

As for the condenser not sure what would work best here, since all foxes are r12 I might be better off getting a GM condenser and accumulator to minimize custom lines needed (plus they might work better with my f-body radiator).

For the expansion tube I have no idea, maybe if I can find someone with a complete AC setup from a fox it will come with the orfice (I don't think there is any difference between r12/r134a expansion tubes.

Any input on this would be great. Trying to get out of this for as little as possible so if you know some stripping a fox or some with all the a/c stuff cheap let me know. If you know of any easier ways to get this done (like which parts I can reuse, where to get lines, etc.) please let me know.

I just junked all my AC/Heater stuff out. Both worked great. Im assuming the trash man picked up the bins already, not sure till I go and check tomorrow.

I seem to remember reading one of the classic auto air companies are starting to do a/c units for fox bodies. Maybe check them out, it would be the easiest way, if they make the kit.

If it's anything like "vintage air" the kit will be like 2k dollars. I'm looking to do this on a budget, like ultra cheap/free parts!

I'd get a factory box for under the dash, get a factory compressor for the engine then just have custom hoses made..

F-body or truck accessories?

Truck...I am kicking myself for getting rid of that compressor! I could use either fbody or truck accessories though (currently running truck) since I already am using an fbody alternator bracket (spaced out for truck accessories) and I have a fbody balancer in storage (would have to buy a different water pump and tensioner though if I made the swap.

Stick with the truck compressor, the F-Body is variable displacement with a high side pressure sensor. Try and get the manifold block when you find a compressor.

If you can fit the F-body condenser use it. I would look into buying a crimper and doing the lines yourself.

Well so far I have found a compete setup out of a fox (controls, heater/ac box, controls, all the stuff under the dash) for $75 (and I am going to help pull it so I know how it all goes back in). And I have found an a/c compressor bracket w/tensioner from a truck for $30. Hopefully I can find the a/c compressor and manifold block for cheap. Guy on C/L has a condensor for $20 from an LS1 car. Since I am running the ls1 radiator I figure it should work on my setup.

Can anyone give me an advice on what all I should grab from he donor car?

Oh, and would any of the pressure lines work from either the fox donor or from a truck donor?

Find a donor for the brackets and such then get on rockauto.com . MAKE SURE YOU GET A PARALLEL FLOW CONDENSER! It will blow colder than the r12 did as long as you've got a good fan clutch and a parallel flow condenser.

It's a orifice tube there about $1.25 and very easy to replace. Just get a new one. The new reciever dryer you get comes with a rubber hose built on so the only hose you'll need is the condenser to evap core hose and the compressor to condenser. You can get a stock style parallel flow condener on the web or ebay and it bolts right in with no mods although I would imagine your brackets for the condenser are missing if the condenser is missing. The control head needs to be swapped with one that has a/c. If yours doesnt someone just swapped in a control head without a/c. There's probably no need to add any vacuum lines because most people dont rip them out.
