Depends on which cars you are comparing. If its a stripped down coupe with a 5.0 and a 5 speed, the Mustang wins hands down in the 1/4 mile. If its a loaded down GT with an AOD, the 5.7 Liter Camaro wins in the 1/4 mile.

Basically up to about 100 mph, the 5.0/ 5 speed Mustang should get there faster. After that, the advantage goes to the Camaro with a bigger engine and better aerodynamics.

This is what I remember also. I had a 5.0 coupe w/ AOD. I got dusted a few times but O what fun we had.

and I think the only way to tell the difference between the 305 and 350 irocs was that the 350 iroc had the 5.7 badge on the drivers side rear bumper..I know cause there was one I used to race all the time with my 2:73 AOD 5.0 and he would get me by about 3 car lengths everytime. I put in 3:73's and I started beating him about 1/2 car length. Man that was along time ago

honestly, coming from where im from im actually interested in seeing this happen.

back where im from he who has the bigger motor wins. no matter what. 350 TPI vs new 5.0? 350 ci will always >302ci no matter what.
does that mean my 5.0 will beat your 4.6?

If they're both automatics, then the Chevy will win this one easily. If they're both 5 speeds, the chevy will still get it done, but not by much. If the ford is a 5 speed, and the Camaro is a 350, I'd say it's pretty much a toss up.

              Lol, so you're saying the 305 5spd will be close to a 302 5spd? No it's not.

350 auto vs coupe 5spd gets it's ass handed to it still. I ran a 87 tpi vette, I pulled it. I also ran a lt1 auto on the highway and it got pulled by 2-3 cars.

The camaro wasn't beating the 5spd mustang coupes until the ls1.

Lt1s are not as slow but for 350cubes it gets smoked by a emissions friendly ford 302.

Keep laughing, chucklenuts. How old are you? You come across like a 17 year old.

There were a couple of different cams in the 305 TPI cars, and normally the 5 speeds were the larger cam. IIRC, it was about 25hp different. Keep in mind, we are talking about STOCK cars here. The aftermarket for the third gens was horrible, so they were pretty much always slow.

If both cars were stock, that's the way I remember it playing out and I grew up racing these slow pieces of shit.

You're high about the LT1 cars. Any LT1 car that didn't have 2.73 gears would drag the fuck out of a stock 5.0. There were an assload of them that were running deep 13's stock around here.

From a roll I'm guessing? How about actually drag racing?

BTW, Did the other cars know they were racing you or did you just hang out next to them on the highway, then punch it and mark it as a win?

3 honks and we talked afterwards?

For as far as "drag racing". From a dig is hard with my car, it will hook in 1st but as soon as i hammer 2nd it spins. The diff clutches are acting weak here lately.

Dig racing is harder with any car. That's why it's fun.

Enough keyboard racing.. Because I remember the 5.0 coupes with 5 speeds spanking that ass until the LS cars came out.

Something about a car weighing less then 3000lbs with a v8.

True, running at the track is always fun.

Street tires gets old after a while.

Touch base with me around Spring Cruise & we will see what happens. I have a set of Mickey Thompson 16 Drag Radials going on my IROC, But it is bone stock. No mods what so ever.

I would be suprised if I run low 15s

Youre stoned. You were probably carrying a GI JOE lunch box when the ls1 cars came out.

                                Not stoned.

Acually i was at the race track on Fridays when they were doing test and tune.

I was at FFW in 2002 at ennis when the 03 cobra first came out. That was a bad bitch. One pitted next to us.

The ls1 cars were fast, but the lt1 cars were close at best. But in the early 2000s most foxes were not stock anyways.
