Gearing, length of the race and traction is a huge factor. My mom has an 89 Iroc 5.7L with a 2.73 posi rear end. It's a quick SOB to 60, but it starts sucking wind after that. Also if you don't launch it just right you will spin all the way through 1st gear.
All 5.7L IROC's are automatics, they did not make it with a stick. The 5.0L IROC could have a manual.
