  • 302 chain

What's involved in getting to it and zeroing it in. Previous owner says it was advanced..

Pull everything off the front of the motor and four bolts out of the oil pan. Good news is nothing will leak when you put it all back together (hopefully). LOL

Yeah I hate pulling the harmonic off anything after I snapped a crank bolt off in a 304 one time.

Oh nice, let me guess...packed with red loctite. Had to use my 1 inch impact at full power (1600 ft lbs) to back one off a shitty little honda, i think they put a full tube on the threads.

Cant. When I took the timing from 36 back to 20, it ran like hell with feathering the throttle... Jim thought it might be an advance on the chain... Sure as sh*t it was. So, I wanna correct this and make the timing on the cam more doable.

No I got it off with no problem sorta. I did break my damn puller because I didnt pull the big ass washer out of the nose of the harmonic. LOL When I went to put the new one back on it was a realllllll bitch. I had heard AMC's were a mother but damn. So after it broke my harmonic installer I went and bought titanium bolts that where longer then the engine bolt thinking with a few washers I could ease it on a little at a time. Second bolt and a break over is a bad combo. It was going on fair but when I went to back it out and go to the standard bolt it snapped right off in the crank. I have been told its best to clean the new paint out of a harmonic on AMC's or any of them to help them slide on. I have done two 302's since then with no issues with my new pullers and installers. Still weary of them.

On my 77 pickup, I snapped the bolt of the installation tool off in the crank - twice.

I didn't think the balancer was fully seated on the crank, so I kept wrenching on it. The tool broke, I took it back to Autozone and got another one. Broke it - then got somebody to look at the balancer. The guy came over and said it was fully seated.

The first chunk of bolt was a pain to get out - the second bolt was easy.
                    .

Tan , taking the stuff off the front of the motor is no big deal but we will need to take our time and find true top dead center so we can set the marker in the right spot . I would suggest dumping the gear drive for a new dbl roller chain and we can get it setup correctly . I still think for the way you drive it and what the combo is that cam is a mis-match . The intake , converter and gear are for a mild combo . The carb and cam are for a light car with a big converter and gear . Just my oppinion .

Ok. Idk wat a geardrive was so I jus kinda knodded my head and smiled. Also, give me a call here before 6. I wanna swing by b4 work and drop off ree's maternity clothes and Florida LP bracket.

I see now! I take it this is a sturdier version for timing chains.

Sorry dude , we spent the day at the lake so I wasn't home for you to come by . A gear drive is stronger , and noisy and creates friction and increases valve train harmonics . Your motor does not need one . Again , just my opinion .
