cam timing has nothing to do with what you are talking about. Also if you install the cam straight up you are going to lose low end.

The big problem is a miss matched combo . I think it needs a smaller cam to perform how he wants it to .

The first chunk of bolt was a pain to get out - the second bolt was easy.
I don't know what it is about chevy's and blalncer installers, but they break the insert easy! I pulled and installed the one on my 302 not problems. Went to put a balancer on a 350 and the insert broke off in the crank too. I ended up just buying a really long bolt to make it work.

I broke mine due to my own lack of knowledge at the time. It just looked like it needed to go a little more, so I tried to make it go a little more.

How many times must it be said. And a vacuum secondary carb. A 600 or 650 at most..

Lol that's in the process. But the blowing out thru the carb like this doesn't scream "carb issue" to me. Basically backfire thru carb... I sincerely hope that's all it is, that'll be a hellova lot easier!

I would rule out ignition timing errors before I started jacking with the cam timing. Verify true TDC and make sure you marks are accurate.

Ok finally tore front of the engine apart. It is a roller cam, and geardrive. I was hoping to see the dots not line up and thinking it was advanced/retarded on the geardrive. Well, I spun the crank to TDC and it lined up with the "o" dot on the cam gear. I read online that this particular GD set has three dots. "A" for advance or "R" for retard. Either way it advance/retards it for a total of 4.5 degrees. This darn thing lined up with the "o" dot perfectly. I assume the "o" is TDC or 0 degrees. Im gunna pull the cam tomorrow and find out EXACTLY what kind it is. I am at a loss for how it runs if its a "true" 347. I was really hoping to see this cam advance/retard so I could re-line it up and install my new double roller timing chain set.
Background: waht made us think the cam was advanced/retarded was that we checked the timing with a timing light one day and it read 36 degrees advanced. We bumped it back to 20 degrees and that alone made the truck idle smoothly and not shake the cab to death in gear. Well, when I backed out of his garage, and put it in drive, I feathered the gas to get it moving and it spit sputtered and ran like poo. And I wasnt even flooring it! So that made Jim (Dumpy) think it was advanced or retarded.

This is actually the same design that's in it now.

cam timing has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with ignition timing...man seems like ive said that before

I understand that bullet. And u have said that before. But I wasn't miss titling either one of the two. Just stating what I found. When we tried effig with IGNITION timing it ran crappy. I assumed that the CAM timing was advanced/retarded on the gear drive. It wasnt. Just trying to figure out why it ran horrible when it was bumped from 36 degrees advanced to 20.
