  • How many of you would Rent a Shop with Lift by the Hour?

    Since I purchased a 9k lb 2 post, I got to thinking.
I am curious if anyone on here would rent the use of a lift with a shop to your own repairs?

I have an 80G 2 stage compressor, air tools, engine hoist, engine stand and hand tools as well as welders, and plasma cutters.

I was thinking about renting the space for different price’s depending on what you needed to use on a hourly/daily or weekly rate.

Anyone seen this kind of business anywhere in DFW and do you think it would be worth the expense for the INS and legal paperwork?

I am not renting at this time, I am just trying to get input from all you the Car guys out there.

The idea of it sounds good, as long as you A. had someone to watch over it so some ass hat didn't wreck stuff or carry stuff off, or B. knew the person well enough to give them free reign over your place. The bad would come when said person thought it was going to be a 2-3 hour job and some catastrophe happened and they had the car torn apart for a week of some crap.

Liability waiver? I'd be interested in a lift as I have no access to one and no place to put one if I purchased it.

Since I already have my LLC we would run it under that, and I have allready figured we would have to a Disclaimer signed releaving us of all Liabilty ( Death, injury or damage to there stuff due to misuse or malfunction of equip) and the tools would all be shadowed and a inventory sheet would be signed the car would be locked inside until the inventory and signed off and the payment made.

Insurance was 1 thing I know I need, we have to get a policy allready for our store front which is where this would also be.

I would write up a contract stating your not liable for accidents and if they leave their shit there or can't pay, you may can put a mechanics lein on the car until they pay up, I'm not sure how placing a lein and all that legal mumbo jumbo works but I would look into it before anything

Do you know the name of the place or what they charge?

My Dad and I used the shop on base to work on all of my cars before I started buying new vehicles. Unfortunately I don't remember what they used to charge per hour per bay.

What I do remember is they had a variety of different lifts(drive-on, X-frame, 2-post), regular hand tools, specialty tools, and fluid recycling. They also have Mitchell On Demand for looking up how-to info.

It really depends on how far you want to go with it. If you are going to have any of the fluid recycling onsite, you will want to talk to TCEQ(state EPA) and see what they require for a business like that. Other than that, the insurance is the biggie as I recall from when we looked into it.

Love the idea and would def. be interested. Bay, lift, and big tools, yes. Hand tools etc. bring your own.
And yes it's sad we live in a sue happy society, when it really boils to their own ignorance. Yes, there's legit cases, but most I think are fraud.
And it's sad we stand for it. Coffee is hot, if you spill it, it will burn you. So you want money for you spilling fresh brewed hot coffee on your lap in your car.

If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

This was something I was always wanting to do. Kinda like Darnell's Do It Yourself Garage in Christine

Once I wasn't able to use my parents garage/driveway any longer, and since apartments/townhomes don't let you work on your car in the parking lot, it seemed like a good idea. At least for someone like me that can't afford/doesn't like shops working on my car.

As for the place in Denton, I drive by a couple times a week and I haven't seen many cars in the shop.
