  • Can't use Strange Shocks w/D&D coilover kit, what would you do?

Took off my Lakewoods and they are blown. Bought some Strange 10 way shocks. Problem is the body of the Strange shocking a lot thicker than the Lakewood.

Only solution I can see is to either send back the Strange shocks and replace them with a new set of Lakewoods or if I decide to keep the Strange shocks I can either:

Buy the UPR coil over kit which cost 260+ I'd probably have to buy new springs and what I've already got in the new shocks.

Buy some spring adjusters from Wolfe, use my current coil over springs, and buy mounts for the strange shocks since my relocation brackets probably won't work with the thicker shocks. This will probably cost at least another $150 on top of what I've already spent on the shocks.

Obviously financially buying a new set of Lakewood 50/50's makes the most sense, the othe two options either require a lot more money or a lot of extra labor, are the Strange shocks worth that much more than the Lakewoods?

Is it the whole body or just the gold cap at the top?

Because the gold cap can be popped off. I had to do it with my Strange 10-ways and the UPR kit. Then I put it back on after the coilover base was on.

The whole body of the strange is by far larger than the Lakewood, I am very tempted to just buy lakewoods and be done with it. If the QA1s were the same o.d. as the lakewoods that would be an option as well. Might just need to go by Wolfe and see if my coilover sleeve would slide over the shock body.

If anyone wants these Strange shocks I paid 139.98 through Amazon (same price Wolfe charges but with Wolfe you get charged tax). Since I'd have to pay return shipping I'll knock off $5 from the total so $135 for the 2.

Oh, OK - I always thought most of the aftermarket shocks were close to the same(dimensions), other than the valving inside.

Can you wait until next week? I would come get them tomorrow but I'm catching a plane tomorrow mornign and wont be back until Monday night

also, if you're interested, I do still have one good qa1 shock, if you wanna work something out. Techinically they are both good, but when I went to adjust them at the track a few weeks ago, the adjustment knob came off in my hand, so its just stuck on 12. It can be fixed but I dont want to dick with it and I have heard good things about the strange shocks.

You know if the QA1's are the same dimensions as the Lakewoods? I thought I remember reading that QA1's require a different coil over kit completely but I could be wrong. Hell, I was under the impression that all of these shocks would work with the same coil over kits up until yesterday when I opened the box!

As you can see the strange is on the left. I thought about just spinning the coil over sleeve on the lathe but it looks like the sleeve would be VERY thin by the time I got it cut down enough and since the lower spring perches sit on that sleeve I'd be worried about how much stress they could handle.

I dont know man, I can measure outside diameter when I get back into town Monday. They don't seem "fat" though. L
