  • Need help with 2002 F150....

It has the 4.6 motor. When you are crusing along, especially if you just try to give it a little gas ~1,800-2,000 RPMs, it'll start "cutting out". If you give it more gas to make it down shift and bring RPMs up it'll speed on up. No codes just rough running at part throttle.

I replaced the fuel filter and "repaired" the vacum hose that runs from the passenger valve cover to the back of the intake. Also it didn't start until a day or so after filling it up. I had them fill up with 93 oct at a busy gas station and put some Berryman's in the tank, just incase it's bad gas. It was still doing it after all that. I told him to run it for a day or so to help move the old gas out, was 1/4 tank when we started.

He just called me a bit ago, the SES light finally came on, it's been "cutting out" since last friday. I told him to take it to AZ to have the code ran and we'll go from there.

If it needs a coil how much are they locally (at stealerships)? I saw on rockauto.com they are $47 for motorcrafts. Autozones are $47 but I am weary buying most electrical/igintion parts there. I see oreillys has motorcraft for $66, I wonder if they will match rockauto?

If you get any code indicating a bad COP, I would suggest you start with a resistance test on the COP and replace the COP coil boot. They are available as a set or individually for the budget minded.
