  • Is this Lakewood 50/50 blown?

These came on a roller I bought, probably sat for a considerable period of time before I got an engine in it. Been trying to chase down some traction issues, and was told that lakewoods are pretty much junk. I have already bought a set of Strange 10 way adjustable shocks to replace these with but would like to know if these are functioning normally.

As you can see in the video when I "shock" them by pressing hard on them they initially drop fast then seem to catch up after an inch or two of travel. They are not super easy to compress or retract but not too hard by hand.

Reason I even care is it seems as I have put more passes on the car it has gotten more loose each pass. It pulled a 1.53 60' a week ago but the I went out twice this weekend and it would only do 1.6's and seemed REALLY loose all the way down the track.

Looks like they have leaked some fluid out. Should be steady all the way. You could here it when you hit the fluid also.
    Whos your Daddy?

They definitely fall initially then seem to start absorbing. They were also squeaky as HELL

Junk. The ones I pulled off my Galaxie the other day had no juice left in them. You could walk by it and push down, then release, and it looked like it had hydraulics. LOL

I got a hell of a deal on Amazon when I bought new front and rear.

I've had a lot of shocks that would have a bit of "free fall" in the very first part of the travel, as long as they have a nice fluid movement through the middle of the travel then they are probably still ok. They need to dampen the area where the suspension normally travels, which in your case is not fully extended.

I can't tell you how many cars I've actually taken new or nearly new lakewoods OFF of and found them to be broke, damaged, or blown out.

Strange are the cheapest / easiest / most bang for the buck - especially on a car like yours.

                          These made it 470 miles!

What do you set the Strange at for an initial setting? My car danced all over the track on Sunday night. Got there at 7:30, car blew a trans shortly after I got there and oiled the entire track. Didn't end up opening the track back up until a little after 9pm. Ran once at around 9:25, made some changes to the tune then ran again at 9:55. Should have probably let out. I hope these shocks will get it a little tighter.

The fronts (on a car like yours) will end up pretty loose I bet, backs will be 2-4 clicks off of loose - no way to have a good answer other than to start there and see what it likes.

Only bought rears at this time. Probably needs fronts as well.
