  • Wanting to get a press for the garage.....

After a local shop wanted $20 to press out each ball joint and bushing for the front lower control arms on my truck I've decided I want my own press. I've looked online at Harbor Frieght and Northern Tool and wanted opinions from ya'll. If you've bought one from them I'd like to know how it's holding up. I guess I'm really looking for something in the 10-20 ton range, just incase I need more pressing power. If you've gotten on from somewhere else and it's not outragously expensive let me know too!
    Thanks

I had a 10 ton from HF, witch is junk. I broke it doing u-joints on my suburban. I've also owned one of the larger 20 ton units, that worked well for the short time I used it, mostly light work though. It is far from a quality unit, but it worked ok for the price.

On a side note, I used a handheld ball joint press to replace the upper and lower ball joints on the suburban. Borrowed it from O'riellys for free. Might just want to borrow instead of buy.

I've used the rental before and it worked fine on an 85 regal, but it didn't have the right size sleeve for my ball joints. If it would have had the right size sleeves it would have been ok.
