  • A/C help in North Dallas for '92 Mustang LX with all new R134 A/C system

Looking for someone that can help me with my '92 Mustang LX in the North Dallas area.

Little backdrop, I installed the Hose Wizard R134 A/C kit (Sanden compressor, condenser, dryer, lines, etc) on my mint, low mile '92 LX in the fall of last year. I had the system charged and have been adjusting it to get the vent temps where they should be. Lowest I got was 46-48 degrees at the vent. Well, it wasn't pulling as cold the last few times i've driven it and kept getting a little warmer. Checked it today and it was 68 degrees. I'm guessing it's leaking so maybe I didn't lube the O-rings well enough or something when installing. I hear a slight hiss where the two lines run to the condensor on the passenger side and also noticed my garage smelling funny after I've driven the car the last few times as well.

Bottom line, i'd like to find someone to help me get this running right and verify a leak. Someone that can evac the system, charge it with R134, check pressures and verify it has zero leaks. I have extra o-rings and the disconnect tools so if it there is a leak it should be quick to fix. This isn't my daily driver so it's not urgent but I am off work this week so it would be conveinent to fix this week. I really want to be able to cruise it to shows and get togethers and feel 40-42 degree vent temps like it's suppose to. :wink1:

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I just swapped the 2 lines on my 91, because of that same hissing noise when you shut vehicle off. I will be changing condenser this friday, hopefully it solves my problem. I assumed the lines were leaking cause it will bleed off for about 30 seconds when i shut car off, and visually could not see any leaks and have UV dye in it and still cannot find anything. My guess is it is bleeding off in the fins of condensor. Only one way to find out, this a/c gets expensive. but its my daily and its hot here. Let me know what you find.

What happened to our resident AC guru? I tried PMing him a few weeks ago with no response.

Easiest way to find it is charge it back up and inject uv dye. Even tho i pull a vac on systems, i also leak check them for several hrs with it charged up.

The hissing noise you hear when it is running and after you shut it off is the freon passing through the orfice tube. It is normal... If you put guages on it and tell me what the low and high side pressures are I can point you in the right direction. chris

Sorry guys. Iv been swamped for the past month or so. I got fired from one job and started another one for a mobile fleet service company. I was working 6-7 days a week about 12-14 hours a day plu I was on call. I just didnt have the time to do anything. I only worked for that company for 4 weeks then I started as a service manager for another company. I work Mon-Thur 11 hours a day now and I go to church on Sundays. So the only extra time Iv had is on Sat and Sun afternoon. Iv been having to try and get my personal truck back on the road and Iv been working on it every Saturday. And to top everything off I had to sign an agreement with my new job stating that I would'nt perform any side work due to conflict of interest. I'll still give out any advice I can but side work is going to have to be put on hold for now.

Thanks for your help today Shaun. It was real nice meeting you and your dad.

The best it would pull is 56-60 at the vent on the way home. The best I got it to pull earlier this year when I first got the kit installed was 44-48 at the vent.

I'm still thinking there must be a leak somewhere. As much as I hate having any place do anything to my car I may just take it by a Firestone or Goodyear and have them pull the system down.

I ran the leak detector over everything, I couldn't find any signs of a leak. Try taking it out during a cooler part of day, its been 100+ all day. Best of luck and I agree about taking things places, I hate it.

Bring the car to me, and I'll run my leak detector hand meter around all the tubes, and your evap/condensor.
