Forrest. They weighed a hell of a lot less than the forged I had on hand when I assembled the motor.

The pistons he has are cast. You can tell by the patterns underneath the head of the piston and in between the skirts. You can also tell by the appearance of the metal itself when I cleaned them.

Stock 86' mustang pistons are forged flat tops. I've always heard you could run 100 shot of juice on cast pistons. I've never done it though.

That is correct, however these are not completely flat top pistons and they came out of a non HO thunderbird, the whole shortblock did.

Most of the information on the net is as follows:

Cast pistons were in non-HO 5.0's from 86-91. They have a small dish, but no valve reliefs. I've heard that the earlier versions of these were in fact forged (86-early 87). I know you can get direct replacements in forged....

I run a 125 hp shot on my buick v-6 with cast pistons. Never had a problem with it and been doing it for years.

You should be fine with a 100 shot on a cast piston. So long as you are getting the correct fuel, and timing is good. I would suggest closing the plug gap to .035 but a stock heat range should be fine. Any more juice I'd step down the plugs..
