  • 6.0 Diesel Input Needed

I know the usual weak points of the head gaskets, head studs, and EGR. What Else?

I'm looking at one with 47K on it, 2006 F250. No, I don't tow much, and when I do its a car on a trailer at most. I'd like to have a gas truck, but the 5.4 in an F250 is a dog, and the V10 drinks even more gas than my Suburban.

Before you Dodge/Cummins guys jump in here and say "get a Cummins", I agree, Cummins is the best. I just don't want a Dodge Truck. Can't do it. Never liked the interiors.

These 6.0's have a bad rep, but I know there have to be a few people out there that have had some good luck with them.

    TIA.

I'd consider fire-ringing the head for extra insurance. I got 195k out of mine before I got rid of it and that was towing heavy.

head gaskets arent an issue if you stud them as stated.Do an egr cooler delete and a programmer, Then take care of the maintenance!

Pretty much. You have a lot of different sources on tunes. I ran innovative diesel's extreme street tune with intake and exhaust and I could hit 1600* but it would drop to 1500ish and stabilize. Quick truck. At nearly 200k it was in great shape. Very few squeaks and rattles. I should have kept that fucker

You mentioned all the main weak points. Theres other minor things and you can do a search on Diesel Power Magazine's site for the article they did detailing all the things to look out for on each year of the 6.0s.

This. change your oil and fuel filters and don't put shit fuel in it. the only other issues are turbo sticking and high pressure oil leaks. this those miles your turbo is likely sticking (just needs to be cleaned not replaced). most importantly take it to some one who knows them inside and out. It cost a little more but having it done wrong cost a lot more in the long run.
