A buddy of mine is working on fixing some issues on a 1957 Thunderbird with a 312.

He is currently trying to figure out the vacuum hose layout. I have not been able to find a diagram for him and wondered if anyone might be able to help.

As it stands, what I have found out is that it is a fairly simple layout and all of the info I have come across is word of mouth only (no pictures). Trying to relay what I'm reading to him, while on the phone, and head first in the engine bay isn't working very well. I might be able to take a look at it later, so any info I find will be great.

If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

Can you find out more info? What carb and how many ports? Which valley pan(road draft in front or rear)? Mech wipers or vacuum? Which trans( stick, auto, 2 sp with vac contros or lever style)? Been a while since I messed with a y block but have some decent old manuals to look through for a diagram.

Had a 57 Ford truck w/ a 292 and an auto.

Lower port on the carb went to the dist. vacuum advance. Generally pass side front.

Intake manifold vacuum port went to the auto trans mod.

Wipers on the truck were elect. The line to the dist MIGHT be a hard copper line with a rubber end on the carb port.

T-bird might have vacuum wiper, it would come off the intake manifold too.

My 292 did not have a PVC valve, it had a drafttube from the block.
Valve covers were nonvented, might not be true for the bird.

The BIG hole under the carb facing the rear would be for a PVC valve if it has one. Must use a reinforced hose to keep it from collapsing under a vacuum from the valve cover.
