A quality gun will go a long way to helping your metalics lay down even. My metalic gun runs about $600. Good guns arn't cheap and likely not worth it if you are doing just one car. I use an Iwata lph400 1.3 with the purple cap. It works great with flakes. For the candy I use lph400 1.4 with silver cap or ls400 1.4 you can stripe it with the candy really quick if your gun has an uneven pattern.
Thats just a little to think about. You also have to worry about trash, temp, ventilation, are you going to seal it, speed of product(dry time), speed and distance of gun from panel, clear gun, etc...

What color and are you sure your body work is spot on?

Body work is spot on, guide coated and block sanded to 600 grit, filling lows, tapping high's,, multiple stages of filler and blocking.

I have a decent primer gun. Devilbiss Finishline 3. I used it to spray the test panel, and the issues I had were mostly not the gun, but more of a technique issue.

Was hoping to find someone to spray this in a booth, considering I have all the materials, car is masked, and ready to wipe and spray for $500-$750.

Also, I bought a nice hood, already painted white. Is it possible to match the rest of the car to the hood lol! Or am I scratching and spraying the hood as well?
Yep deff need good exhaust..are the hood and the color being sprayed the same?
Personaly I would go ahead and spray it too

Depends are we talking garage or booth theobvious difference is a booth has has the appropriate filter eliments which would make the too much exhaust argument pointless

If you have 2 openings, put filter in one and a fan in the other blowing out. As it ventelates it will pull in air and the filter will catch the dust.
A filter on the exit (fan) would be good too, so you don't blow overspray all over your heighbors house & car. lol
Also make sure you have filters for your paint gun so moisture and oil don't get through to your paint.
As well as filter your paints and clear and you should be good.

When you wet the floor in the temps we have been having you have evaporation and as the water rises while you are painting the particles mix and can orange peel, fish eye, tiger stripe...you name it. The paint job is only as good as the air/paint mixture coming out of the gun...throw another variable into it and you will have a mess and more body work to do...
This is my understanding as well, I've painted bumpers, wheels, bikes, etc. in my garage with it wide open with very minimul trash.
The only trash was either from the gun or a gnat, they seem to love clear. lol

Israel, I was going to ask if you rented out your booth and what the cost would be.
So you will rent it and the $150 is for the day or half day?

Metallics can be tricky, I spray silver (metallics and pearls) all day and I apply medium to medium wet coats, not wet wet like you can with solid colors.

Yea, definitely tricky. Saw a youtube video where someone went horizontal on the first coat, then diagonal on the second coat to eliminate lines or tiger striping.

Seems to be a fine line between a med wet coat, and going too dry and getting dry spray.

Well no. The hood I bought is already finished, white base and clear, so it's ready. I was just wondering how hard it would be to match the white on it so I can shoot the rest of the car to match. This would save me the hassle of scratching up a perfect hood to paint again, with the car.

I'll get the air exchange fine tuned and give it a shot one of these weekends, will post results.

A LOT of people saw your work when that guy complained about it in the back porch..for whatever the reason, the thread got deleted. I HOPE it was because you made it right, because that work was HORRIBLE.
