Kind of reviving this thread. We are now ready to paint this car, and decided to put up a temporary paint booth in the garage out of 6 mil plastic, going to put in a few lights, and a cross flow air flow setup using a SN95 fan in a window and some good filters.

We are posting videos every couple of days on our youtube channel if you want to check it out.

Looking for Information on CNC Fiber Lasers or CNC Press brakes ? You have come to the right place! My name is Gary Ramey and I import, sell, install, and support these Asian made machines

    Thanks!

I did call around to a few places, and most were $100-$500 for a day. I think most of them are cross draft. Even for a down draft, $2500 is still steep!

Oh, and I don't know if you know about this stuff, but it might work for that home booth you have in mind. Im thinking about giving it a shot next time I shoot a whole car in my garage.

The ZipWall Dust Barrier System provides dust control for construction, remodeling, and restoration. A ZipWall temporary dust barrier up to 20 feet high can be set up by one person in minutes without ladders, tape, or damage. Learn about ZipWall products or shop here.

That zip wall looks pretty slick. If we were going to do more than one, probably a good way to go, but I am sure it is more than just the 6 mil plastic from home depot, thanks for showing it.

The mustang is going to be 2 tone. Candy wine Red with matte gunsmoke mettallic on the roof and hood.

Here is a test panel we shot. We did shelby stripes on the test panel, but that''s not how it will be on the car.

I painted two tone metallic in my garage and it came out pretty good. Swept the garage well, hung plastic sheeting, and went to work. The best cheap paint gun i found was the hvlp gun sold by harbor freight - i have several. We started with a bunch of fans and filters to keep the air moving and the overspray down and ended up not using them at all, and it still turned out ok. Just don't try painting at night because of flying bugs.

Stripes in your paint sound like an issue in your technique to me. Something is wrong with the fan setting on the gun, or spray pressure, or your distance away from what you are painting is wrong. Or it could also be the gun; i had an eastwood gun that would not spray right no matter what i tried, and it tended to tiger stripe. I shit canned it.

You must also have a clean, dry, adequate air supply, regulated at the pressure recommended for your gun. There are all kinds of inline filters that you can get to dry and filter the air. I'd recommend that you also get a small one and install it right before the gun as a final defense against crap coming out of the gun.

And how was the gun cleaned the last time that it was used? Could the crap have been left in there from that? I've had that happen before.

I didn't have any problems with striping in the metallic, only in the candy. I solved this by reducing the candy concentrate with clear mixed 2:1 (2 parts candy concentrate to 1 part clear). Also doing a cross drop coat helped alot. Second attempt on the test panel was stripe free.

I have a homemade copper pipe drying system and a Devilbiss filter/dryer, so my air is pretty dry.

you got any pics/vids of your paint job?

Thanks man. There are some suspension videos on our channel. It's Rod and Custom Motorsports MII front and rear triangulated 4 link, disc brakes and fox body power steering setup. JamesB narrowed the rear end and helped me with the suspension installation.

I have a '66 coupe that I want to start work on soon and I was looking a the MII style front suspension also. What made you go with the Rod And Custom? I'm kinda liking the Heidts.

Mostly the customer service experiece. Heidts is a large company, and their tech support people are not all that knowlegeable on the products. You actually talk to the owner, engineer, designer when you call RC. They are just an excellent group to work with.
