  • Rebuild 4L60E

What is a good price to get a rebuild done on a 4L60E and where would you take it? This is for my buddy's stock LS1 Trans Am so it doesn't need to be a race setup or anything.
    TIA
Atlantic Blue '00 - '03 Cobra motor and TKO600, solid axle, full MM suspension
    Silver '01 Vette - D1 blown LS

The parts for a "proper" rebuild and a converter would be more than 400.00.

So how much does a "proper" rebuild cost?

I used to have a vendor selling me their remans for $700 a pop. I can't see you cutting it much less than that and offering any kind of warranty. That's with a reman pump, valve body, converter and the guy buying parts by the truck load. The solenoids were salvage "tested" units. If you have any hard part damage the price would go up. If he lost reverse add $200 at least for a new reaction sun shell.

Note: That was my price buying 50-60 of them a month.

Well there you go, throw that behind a 300+hp V8 and see what happens. Worst case it'll burn up the 3-4 clutches after 91 days.

i'd be interested to find out if that's the case.
the phone number brings up ads on forums going back to 2006 for the same thing.

Why would servos need to be replaced? New orings/rings and slap them back in. The only parts needed for a basic build should be clutches/steels, band and gaskets as far as I know unless the unit is thrashed then probably some hard parts.

I hate r&r on transmissions, I'll glady spend some extra coin for a quality build.

Sounds more like it. Just like everything else prices on parts have gone way up. Some people are building these units with off shore cheap parts or even used clutches. I try my very best to only use quality American made parts. For example I could by a cheap 2-4 band at wholesale price of 12.50 but instead I like using the Borg Warner high energy one but it cost 20.50. Cheap 3-4 clutches are 2.00 a piece but the good ones are 4.40 each. So as the saying goes you get what you pay for.
