Welding torque boxes.

Yeah, just go up to Wolfes and buy the plates - they're something like 30$.
The torqueboxes look pretty virgin, you should be fine. ALL I can say is clean, clean, clean...and maybe even power wash them good if it's possible. You'll be happy you did. Weld EVERY seam you can reach with a welder, and even the ones that don't look like they are suspect.
That lip on the lower torque box should be hammered flat before you put the plate on, it makes it sit a lot more flat and a lot easier to weld in place fi that's done. Use a good stiff wire brush to clean them.

Nasty is not the word for it, I try to reserve those jobs for winter time if possible. Just about every welding scar I have on my arms are from torque box repair!89 dove grey lx, turbo blowthrough
