When trying to reset my timing, I noticed it will not budge on my 347. It's a mech advance MSD dizzy. I loosened the lock nut all the way and it will not budge. Any remedies to loosen this bad boy?

You can try soaking it with pb blaster.

Your oil pump is driven off the distributor.

take a small paint scraper see if you can gently wedge it between the distributor shaft and the block...try work it loose lil bit at a time...until you can work a flat head screw driver or until it pops of the cam gear...good chance the distributor is seized up inside the block, should be able to work it loose.

Ok dumb question, but is this ok? Will I be able to reuse the dizzy with no issues? I assume the shaft of the dizzy swelled over time and heat and caused the seizure.

Whole reason this all spurred up was when Jim and I took a timing light to it only to discover that the timing pointer was missing... So, we installed a new one and found a super advanced setup... Were talking 25-30*! Im trying to bump it back to 14*. 347 stroker, edelbrock performer heads and intake, demon 750 DP, all forged internals, 600 lift comp cam, etc.

Has nothing to do with the shaft. Usually the block has surface rust on the hole that the dist. seals to(part with the o ring) and mates to the aluminum. Soak it and try to make it move a little soak it again move it again etc...

i am willing to bet that its not super advanced, but you have the wrong timing tab.

Nah, it runs like it. It'll backfire thru the carb occasionally and it has a slight misfire (barely hear it) on soft acceleration.

Try the PB blaster several times a day and rap on the block lightly with a hammer all around the dist. hole for a few minutes. Might even try putting some mild heat around it with a map torch. I would also index the balancer and make sure you have the right pointer on there.
