So what is the weight of this car with the driver? If it's somewhat close to stock weight it should weigh 3200#'s right? So lets say you weigh 200#'s. Now that's 3400#'s. That would mean you make a shade over 280 FWHP to reach an 80mph trap speed at that weight. I don't doubt for 2 seconds that you didn't run that time, so don't get your panties in a wad. 1 of 2 things or maybe both are going on here. Either that car has ported heads, stroker short blockl with stock heads, or has a shit ton of weight reduction. You can't argue with the math. Mph is an indicator of HP. I just can't see a stock engine 5.0 making that much hp. maybe the previous owner ported the heads or installed a stroker? You obviously have the slips to prove your times, so something mechanically is up. Good times for a stockish car though.
My Cobra looks 100% stock under the hood. Even has the original GT40 heads. I manage 85 mph in the 1/8th and could do better if I could launch with more RPM than idle. It's made possible with 2 more points of compression from stock, and 36 more cubic inches. Can't see it from looking, but the truth is in the mph. It takes HP to get the mph up. Even at 3200#'s you would need over 240rwhp to reach 80mph. 93 Cobras with a Cobra intake, GT 40 heads, UD pulleys, 1.7 RR's, 65mm tb, 70mm MAF meter, and O/R H-pipe will lay down about 250 to the rear tire. You have a stock U/L intake, stock E-7's, no roller rockers, and a stock t/b and MAF meter? All that is only worth 10 rwhp over what you have? I suppose anything is possible, and I know there are some factory freaks, but cmon now. Don't get me wrong, it runs really good, but perhaps the previous owner did some work. Ever have the heads off? I've owned Thumper ported E-7's and Power Porting E-7's. Both looked completely stock in outside appearance. These cars are 20+ years old so I wouldn't say it's unheard of. Stock, unworked heads would be more rare to find in a V8 coupe.
I'll never know about the heads until pull them off.
I've seen a cobra with same mods and a e cam put down 275rwhp and over 300lbs ft.
Sure I've seen those too, but there are other details. I would think the valve springs would need an upgrade. E cam is what .498 lift? So add 1.7's to the mix and now we are just under .530 lift on crappy ford valvesprings. It also has more duration from 208 up to no 220. It will need to rev higher to get that extra power. Not saying you don't read about it, and it's definately doable. The devil is in the details that most of the shade tree mechanics miss. Sure those heads werent milled when that E-Cam went in? No port work at all? Can you be sure? My point was that in all these threads you talk about your stock car with with hwy gears whoopin up on V-Rods, and other vehicles that should completely destroy your car in a race. Now driver mod counts for a lot, and I'm sure you are a great driver, but driver mod dont mean shit from a 40mph blast. I've owned many 10+ fox body mustangs, and my 97 Cobra with 4.56's would absolutely blow the doors off any one of those cars in any sort of hwy run. If you are hangin, then you are not stock. Just because you didn't do it doesn't mean it isn't in there. Like I said, my Cobra looks bone stock, but will walk a stock 95 Cobra by leaps and bounds.
well the car he is talking about is mine. and it is a 306 with the stock heads milled just for a rebuild. upgraded double bee hive springs. but no port work on the ports. so a slight more compression. his car runs with mine pretty much. im about 3450 lbs with me in it and he is about 100 to 150 lighter in his.
Back when i had 2.73s, I never came close to a bike that was running it, they were just cruising.
As far as the 97 cobra with 4.56s, me and him still need to make that happen. But when he had 3.27s we ran from a 30 and I had 3 cars on him in a hurry.
