  • Think the last guy might have put this in backwards..

Having a little trouble with my 94 GT. I think that the last guy that worked on this part of the car might have installed the thermostat backwards. The gasket was leaking and I have reason to believe that the thermostat may not have been functioning properly.

All I need to know is how the thermostat is supposed to be in there. Does it go like in the pic? The opening at the top of the thermostat housing is where the upper radiator hose connects. But you probably already knew that.

Yeah lol. I broke that cast aluminum piece of garbage. I guess it has been through too many heat cycles. Went to autozone and got a newer, better made one for $10.

That's what happens when you over tighten it.

or the thermostat falls in the gasket space

Is that for all cases? I have a aftermarket chrome housing on my '65 from the previous owner and currently in the process of changing the thermostat. One bolt decided to rust itself in place and the head twisted off resulting in more work. The other bolt wasn't quite tightened enough or may have just worked loose? I have noticed I have little coolant leak from somewhere around that area and assumed that the aftermarket housing might be the culprit.
