  • Trans screeching on hard 2-3 shift?

I noticed today that when I shift hard at WOT I get a screech coming from what seems like the tranny. This is a stock 3650 in my nearly stock 07 GT. Before the cruise on Saturday it didn't do this. I'm assuming it's the clutch or throw out bearing going out.

Ive seen a 3650 do this on a 600rwhp car. It would do it going into fifth.

Thankfully, the tranny isn't behaving any differently besides the noise. The clutch engages kind of softly, but it has been that way since I bought it almost 3 years ago.

I'll investigate the serpentine belt tomorrow too.

My theory was the internal "brakes" in the transmission.

It's Cone shaped and is used to slow down the syncro so the don't grind..

I'll try and find a picture of what im talking about because I'm doing a horrible job at explaining it.

But that's the only thing I could come up with, even though I've never heard of them making noises, but to me it made sense.

Thats what I thought, it was just a threory.

I've heard this before and it didn't sound like belt slip, but the only belt slip I've heard from torque was a v belt. Maybe a ribbed belt sounds differant.

I've ruled out the serpentine belt. It's most definitely coming from the trans. Should I put slicks on and see what breaks, just replace the clutch, or just dont worry about it?

This morning and this afternoon I couldn't get it to do it. I guess I have one of those self healing transmissions.

The TR3650 is well known for having syncro issues on the 3rd gear. You wouldn't hear the noise you described though, it would be more of a slight grind at first that gets progessively worse over time. Eventually you destroy the carbon liner on the ring and the 3rd gear side of the 3-4 slider.
