  • MSD ignition troubles

I am still trying to figure out my intermittent problem with my car randomly dieing on me whenever it wants. We called MSD and they gave the regular "check all grounds and connections". They then said this is a common problem and 9 times out of 10 it ends up being the box. We asked what are y'all doing about it and they said really all you (the customer) can do is to buy another box. WTF? Why would someome do that if this is a common problem?

Back story: Car randomly dies once warm. Normally restarts after sitting for 10-15 minutes. Now the car will restart immediately and continue on. It died on us twice last night.

1st time was sitting at a red light idling for a few minutes. I pushed the clutch in and put it in first. Light turned green and before the car in front of me moved the car just flat lined. Turned the key and it started right up with no hesitation.

2nd time: pushed clutch in to downshift while slowing down to turn into driveway and flat lined again. Coasted into driveway and then it started right back up.

The car runs great otherwise with no hesistations while idling, light load, or WOT. This has me pulling my hair out.

Anybody got a 6AL I could borrow for a weekend to test it out?

Forgot to mention that this is on a carbureted 65 Mustang. No TFI.

I will be testing the Distributor pickup tonight. I will test the resistance cold and then once it is at full operating temperature. I have narrowed it down to either the dist. pickup or the 6al box.
