  • Engine Differences: 03 Mach 1 vs 04 Lincoln aviator??

Need an engine for my Mach. What differences are there? What will I have to pull from my Mach engine to put on this one? Accessories? Heads? Will my comp. ratio be changed if I use my Mach heads?

    Thanks...
    Detailing is an Obsession!!

Accessories are completely different but if your Mach is an auto it's an easy swap. Aviators were AT only so they have a flex plate and a 6 bolt cast crank, most Machs are MT with an 8 bolt steel crank. Motorsport sells a 6 bolt flywheel for this swap but I can't remember the part number.

It's not an upgrade by any means, Aviators seem to have more problems with burning valves in the back cylinders than any of the other 4V applications.

ford offers a flexplate, you just have to use an earlier model to get the flexplate in a 6 bolt

What about heads? I would use Mach heads on it. Would that eliminate burning valves?

heads are the same, only differences between the two motors (if yours is an AT) is the intake and oil pan, and front acces.

Ford says to install part# 2C5Z-6049-CAB and 2C5Z-6049-BAB, which are the 03-04 Cobra heads to correct the problem. They revised the coolant passages.

Mine is a Manual... So I would just need to swap my oil pan, intake, front assy, and buy the 6 bolt flywheel?

just out of curiousity why even mess with the aviator engine and why not just find a manual mach motor?

especially since the manuals had the forged internals...

Any late 01-04 GT will have the right flywheel for the Aviator
