  • Is this converter fully splined/mated?

4r70w, 2,500 Hughes converter. The converter seems to be the exact external dimensions as the AODE converter that came out of the car with the old transmission.

The nub sticks about .345 out from the bellhousing.

    Cheers,

Every converter I've ever messed with sat back in behind the end of the bellhousing. Did you spin it as you were putting it in? I think AODE's have a couple different sets of splines you have to engage it to.

It seems I recall older Ford transmissions (i.e. C4, etc.) had two spline engagements. Unless both were engaged by spinning the converter while installing it as mentioned above, it would extend too far out of the bellhousing and bind against the flex plate.

We tilted it on it's tail and spun it for a while it sits about as far in now as it sat out before. It found another engagement. Need to throw it back in now.
