  • How much do shops markup replacement parts?

Just had some front end work done to the 1997 Ford F150.

I was shocked that they charged me $70.12 for a lower ball joint, when the same part from VatoZone is $30.99.

They charged me $89.96 each for KYB shocks when I can find them for $49.95-52.98 each any where I look.

Is this normal? I don't mind paying for parts, but to double the cost is freaking rediculous.

it also depends on what brand they used. vato zone has some shitty joints, nicer pieces can get up to 70 plus.

Are you saying they sell for list, or double?

In my experience they sell parts starting at double the price and go up from there. Iv seen shops charge as much as 400% mark up.

Our chassis is made by Federal Mogul just like Moog..We are testing a premium line in some markets made by Raybestos. Carquest dropped MOOG to go with the Raybestos.

I deal with shops day in, day out. That is who I sell to.

As one could tell, I don't do much business with shops. I guess it's time to start turning my own wrenches again.

2 shocks, 2 upper control arms, 2 lower ball joints, 2 sway bar end links and an alignment ran $1150.

Ouch. I am sure someone on here would have done it cheaper.

There's plenty of board members that could've done that work for a lot cheaper.
