  • Which monotube shocks and struts for 94?

My 94 GT needs new shocks and struts all the way around. That would be, front struts and rear shocks of course.

So I figured I'd give it a little upgrade if I could, and go with monotubes. But which ones? I plan to lower the car 1.5"-2.0" inches in about a year. And it would be nice if the shocks and struts I'm buying now would work fine with the lowering springs I'll be buying. Also I'm on a bit of a budget, so it can't just be the most expensive ones out there.

Do a search. This subject has been beat to death. For lowered cars run Fox struts for more bump travel.

I don't know how to revalve a bilstein. Or any other shock for that matter.

How about KYB gas adjust for the rear? They don't make the gas adjust for the front.

you get them revalved for your application, then they are a perfect match for your spring rate

So I take it revalving them is not something you can do yourself.

Are you saying that just buying some bilstein's off the shelf somewhere is a bad idea for some reason? Or are you saying its ok, but they'll just be that much better if you have them revalved?

I would steer clear of kyb. In descending order of price: Koni, Bilstein, Tokico. I've been very happy with my "C" spring and Tokico HP combo on my 3klb Fox

Oh hey man thanks again for that exhaust! It works great and sounds awesome! And I'm pretty sure I ditched about 25 lbs when I ditched the stock exhaust.

I'll take a closer look at those Tokico's. Never knew if they were any good till now. Never really looked into it. What's your take on the revaleving tengram? Doubt I'll ever do it but now I'm curious.

That stock stuff is seriously heavy. Glad I could help!

A damper and a spring should be matched, but outside of a max performance effort you've got a lot of wiggle room. For example, Maximum Motorsports sells three different revalved Bilsteins that each cover up to a 200 lb/in range of (conventional) spring rates.

Anyone know where I can get a new set of bilsteins for around $500? That is my budget for 4 new shocks and struts for my 94 GT.

You can get strange engineering 10 way adjustable shocks for that price, they go from road race setting all the way to drag setting thats what I would buy. or did buy

I've never heard of anybody using Strange shocks for anything even remotely related to road racing. Ever. That's not to say that someone somewhere hasn't tried it... just that if it was at all a good option I would have heard about it.

I agree, love my Koni's, but do think I'm do for new one's. Just for fyi, I called Koni, revalving Koni's are more expensive than buying new.
I know a month or so ago places like tirerack were doing a buy one get one free on Koni's. I would've got new one's but my pockets were empty at the time. May want to do a search just in case the sale is still going on.
