  • Clutch Quadrant in 89 coupe

I'm changing my clutch quadrant and clutch cable and installing a firewall adjuster. Got cable and main plastic quadrant off, but I'm having trouble with the smaller plastic part of the clutch quadrant assembly. That fucker wont come off. It's spring loaded and every time I try to pull it or pry it with a screwdriver like the instructions say, the spring pulls it back into position. Any suggestions on how to get it off? I can't see or feel the spring to unhook that bitch. I would like to get my car running but this one plastic fucker is messing everything up by not coming off. Surely one of you guys has changed a quadrant in a fox and could give me a suggestion on how to get this off.

    Thanks for your help!

It doesn't have a c-clip. It had cotter pins holding it on and I got those out. Large quadrant came off easy but the smaller piece is a mofo. Every time I try to pry it off, those stupid springs pull it back on. I'm considering trying to break it off of there. I just dont want to mess anything up that's being reused...

Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate the suggestions

Can you take a picture of what you're having difficulty with?

When I swapped mine, the hardest thing was getting the cable popped onto the hook.

Well I finally got that bitch done! She's back to being the car I love. Woo-hoo! And that firewall adjuster is nice too! I got it set up where the clutch engages in the middle right where its supposed to instead of at the very top. It drives so much better than before. It's not hard to get in gear anymore either. It's back to being fun to drive rather than a pain the ass like it was getting to be. I'm excited.
