  • Rut roh, I think I might have a dead cylinder.

Noticed the car running bad and started hearing some lifter like noises coming from the engine. I took off the valve covers and nothing unusual there. I took the carb off and it sounded fine till it gets to one cylinder and it sounds like air escaping. I am thinking possible head gasket, or ring gland, Any thoughts?

Will be inspecting the plugs tomorrow morning. The oil and coolant look normal

I drive more often than that. I am pretty sure it is a head gasket blown. 125 shot probably did it in after 5 years.

First thing tomorrow morning that is the first thing on my list to do. I just did not want to do it with the engine hot. Like stated above I am pretty sure it is a head gasket that is blown

LOL, I know , but I like both fords and Chevys. Been driving this car since 2002 and this is the first time it has given me major problems. I think it will be worth paying for a new head gasket.

                  So do I.

I just figured since it has an extra 7 bolts per head, less likely a gasket failure.

if you have a headgasket blown that bad it would be pressurizing the cooling system. If you did a compression test on it and it has zero it is more than likely a valve seized in the guide.

                              not necessarily.

spray check the primaries. Also, you can start pulling a wire at a time till you get no change, then youve found the problem cyl
