  • Building your own brake hoses

I am about to redo some SN95 brakes and I went to several sites to check the cost of steel braided brake hoses for the car and was shocked to find they wanted some really crazy prices for the hoses. I'm talking $100 to $120 for two or three teflon lined hoses.

For my Fox car, I built the hoses for my Wilwood setup, it was fairly simple and ended up costing about $35. But that was a long time ago.

Has anyone done the same for their SN95? Just curious. I think I am about to stick it to the man!

Long racing has good prices on custom brake hoses.

If you have already invested in a crimping setup I say go for it.

I think we are going to pick up one of the mastercool sets soon.

There's a few ways to go, but name brand shit is HIGH.

Smiley's sells some pre-made hoses that I've had decent luck with. You can make your own, exactly like you want (fittings, length etc) from a summit or jegs catalogue - just get the teflon line hose, and the screw-together fittings.

You can check this place out too - I've bought a bunch of stuff from them http://www.inlinetube.com/

I ordered the banjo to -3 adapters along with the 45* to -3 an adapters from inlinetube. I got the premade hoses from racepartsolutions for about 50.00 for all 4 corners. It can be done for less than a bill

            Smiley's x1million.

Was looking for lower control arms for our GN this week and couldn't touch an adjustable set for less than $250. Went to the shop in Houston and found chromoly tubes, rod ends and bushings for about $135. They also had about 300 brake lines...some for $10 ea.

They get a lot of my money with 3 race cars and the GN as of late!

Yep, smileys is where I got my last set. Just figure out the length and fittings you need on each end and go in and check their selection. I dont believe they are DOT approved though but still work fine.

Here is what I got so far for the front hoses, priced off of Baker Precision's site, they have always had pretty cheap prices on hoses and fittings, often beating Summit by a substantial amount:

                All Aeroquip parts
                4' FBC 0300 teflon hose, $3 a foot X 4 feet = $12
                2 FCM 1100 straight -3 steel hose ends, $6.21 each = $12.42
                2 FCM 3092 -3 10mm banjo 17 degree hose ends, $16.38 each = $32.76
                2 989549 -3 to 7/16 inverted flare hardline adaptors $3.75 each = $7.50
2 banjo bolts (not sure what size just yet) with crush washers $6.20 each = $12.40

                For a total of $77.08

I'll have to see what inline tube has, I didn't see mustang hoses listed but you would think they would be cheaper.

Take the hoses off the car and run down to Midwest Hose Supply, Regal Row and 35/183, they will build them in whatever material you want while you wait. Very reasonable place.
