When you put the car in gear, whether it is reverse or drive, it immediately cuts off. If you work the brake and give it some gas it will stay running. Could it be and iac motor, timing, or something else? It runs great, just that issue and needs an a/c charge. Any suggestions on where to get that done also? Thanks in advance!

I'd start off with a for sale sign. I owned a 99 metro. It was great until it broke down. I started spending more in repairs than it was worth. I ended up selling it at a major loss. If it has the Suzuki 3 cyl. Good luck.

The thing got so hot it melted the front crank seal and timing cover and kept running. He drove it until the battery finally died (Roanoke) and called me. There was no oil showing on the dipstick and zero coolant in the radiator. I put on a new belt, topped off the oil and coolant and he drove it home. Never fixed the crank seal, as long as the car was almost out of oil it didn't leak, either that or it had so much sludge it sealed itself. He drove it a couple of more years until finally the clutch went out and he left it on the side of the road somewhere.
