  • 1992 Geo Metro

When you put the car in gear, whether it is reverse or drive, it immediately cuts off. If you work the brake and give it some gas it will stay running. Could it be and iac motor, timing, or something else? It runs great, just that issue and needs an a/c charge. Any suggestions on where to get that done also? Thanks in advance!

I'd start by looking for a vacuum leak.

I'd start off with a for sale sign. I owned a 99 metro. It was great until it broke down. I started spending more in repairs than it was worth. I ended up selling it at a major loss. If it has the Suzuki 3 cyl. Good luck.

My half retarded nephew (smoked so much pot it made him stupid) couldn't kill one. His went 5+ years without an oil change, I don't even think he ever checked it. One time he was somewhere near Sherman and the main drive belt broke (drives the water pump) and he kept on driving it, pulling over every few miles to hose the engine off with water to "keep it cool". The thing got so hot it melted the front crank seal and timing cover and kept running. He drove it until the battery finally died (Roanoke) and called me. There was no oil showing on the dipstick and zero coolant in the radiator. I put on a new belt, topped off the oil and coolant and he drove it home. Never fixed the crank seal, as long as the car was almost out of oil it didn't leak, either that or it had so much sludge it sealed itself. He drove it a couple of more years until finally the clutch went out and he left it on the side of the road somewhere.

Yeah they are rolling pieces of crap but they get excellent fuel economy and a told f'ing jackass can't kill it.

Negative, Jayme. The Marines didn't teach him much common sense.

Sounds like a guy the used to work here. He just left his geo in the parking lot after something messed up in the transmission.
