  • Chrome plating or ideas

I have a GT40 tubular intake on the car with the original cover. I would like to put a really high quality chrome plating on the cover. Who can do this, and are there alternatives to plating it but still get the desired effect? TIA!

I've used Pulido Plating in Balch Springs, and I know several other people who have used them. I had them plate my tail light/license plate bracket for my Harley after I fabricated it. They charged me $40. They're off of 175 and 635.

Jason, that's what it is, but that one looks like steel. Mine is cast and I would like for it to look like that.

That is a badass looking rig!

Aaron, did it take them long to do it? How big was your piece you had done? Thanks

Its the same as yours, just sanded down and polished.

I'm not a chrome fan, so I would say spend the money to have it all polished up.

They must have removed the "5.0 H.O." part.

On the cover plate bolted to the top? Maybe, or it is a repro that didn't have it to begin with.

I'm just talking about the cover. Mine is all cast together. That one just looks different. The originals bring so much money, that a lot of guys are fabbing their own.

After looking at it, the one in the pick is fabbed up. You can tell where they rolled the sides down. Mine is just a cast piece. If they can polish it, that's great. I just didn't think they could polish pot metal.

I had a 84 Vette one time with a freaking cast magnesium cover over the crossfire. Took me three days to polish it. Started with 80 grit, then went all the way to 1500 grit, and used my dremel in the hard to get spots. Then bought a polishing kit with red and white compounds and went to town.I could have got big money for that dude as I was the only one ever to try that. Same with bike frames, I use to be able to make them look like chrome when that was popular.

Orbital sander till I hit around 1000 grit just FYI.

When you grind the shit out of them and sand them with 80 grit you would be suprised how much different they look. Take a pic of yours or someone post up a stock pic.

Jason, google GT40 intake cover, and go to images. It's the 2nd from the right in the second row down.

Yeah. The cover is what I want to polish/plate.

If you go 4 pics to the right, you see just the cover.
