  • Will a shift light void warranty?

My dad had a coil go out on his 09 Roush. It has roughly 14k miles and has a 36k mile warranty. The only things he has changed on the car is the mufflers, driveshaft, drive shaft loop, clutch and a shiftlight. He is only worried about the shift light causing an issue since that required wiring into the ignition circuit for pickup.

Will he have issues getting a coil replaced under warranty?

He had it scanned at Auto Zone last night and the code said Primary Coil but did not say which one.

Every dealership is different, theres dealers that don't care what you do as long as you let them fix it, there are others that don't want you changing the air in the tire. Call the dealership and ask them!

That was my advice followed by.. you may just have to get firm with them. He would probably rather pay for the part than mess with dealership haha.

Either that or use this an excuse to buy a complete set of MSD coils.

It's my understanding that by law they have to prove that your modification caused the failure in order not to warranty the repair but that definitely doesn't mean they won't try to deny you because of it.

I'd call Jonathan Pankrez @ 5 Star Ford. He's always helped me out and been very mod-friendly when I've dealt with issues or had questions.
