Blew the trans in my coupe. Trying my hardest to get it back together before the cruise. Options at this point:

1- Take it to Mike's Trick Shift, have him build a trans/converter for it, he indicated he could have it done hopefully by mid-week next week which would give me just enough time to bolt everything together.

2- Use a friend of a friend who supposedly builds good transmissions and buy a converter from Yank or PI.

Option 1 would be more expensive, but Mike has quite the reputation around here. Not sure how Mike's converters would stack up against Yank or PI, but then again I'm not sure how option 2's build would stack up against Mikes build.

I've got the transmission in the trunk of my car, gotta make the choice today. Not real excited about dropping the dough, but my gut says take it to Mike's even if it is more expensive. I just really don't want to have to pull it again and it seems like every time I try to save a buck I spend 2 more in the process.

Thats my biggest concern. Not that there is no possibility of failure with Mike, but from what some highly reputable people on this site have indicated his stuff is strong and he'll stand behind it. I just really want to be able to trust this transmission when I get it back, I absolutely hate having a known weak link, I just obsess over it every time I drive/race the car.

Plus even if I save a few bucks, the hassle of having to pull it again if something isn't right would make up for the difference.

I35 Transmission in Lancaster and ask for Davey. They build for O'reilly and I have seen some bad ass rides in and out of there. It use to be a terrible shop many years ago and when someone suggested them to me I laughed as we had put that guy away a few times. Well turns out while I was in warrants for a while they got new owners. I went up and chatted with him and new from talking to him he knew his stuff. My ex brother in law use to be a great builder and had his own shop until the drugs got him. Once he went away it made me sick to have any tranny work done because I know how shitty most places are. I took I35 my Bronco and we sat down and decided what would be the best bang for the buck on modding a AOD tranny. He broke it down and called me that day to come look at it. His builder showed me the busted parts and what was questionable and I oked the work and away they went. While he was under there he went ahead and changed my rear seal for 10 bucks since it was leaking. Built it up with a upgraded servo and a better clutch pack and I have no complaints, it shifts great. I took it in at noon one day and he had it back at 1 the next day. He does change overs, custom work, and doesnt BS on the price to sucker you in like alot of places. I was just giving him another option. His dad also builds street rods in Midlothian and has a shop so it is kinda a family deal.

Hey its hard to find a good tranny place. I am just excited its not in bum fk like every other place is. I can usually tell in the first 10 minutes of talking to a shop if they are idiots also. I have had a lot of cars over the years and interesting times dealing with various tranny places. I had my ex brother in law for years and was kinda spoiled. I really hated to see him go the other route but I learned alot from listening to him when I was younger.

I can tell you of multiple cars putting over 1k through mikes convertors...

I'd take it to Mike & not look back. You don't get get the reputation he has by doing shoddy work. He's done a bunch for me, and i'm still waiting for one to break.

It's worth $500 to me to not have to R&R a tranny and all that entails (lugging it around, etc.).

Take it to Mike. My son has a 4R70W and 10" Billet Converter built by him. You want be disappointed. 1.49 60 ft. in 450 HP car!
