  • Rotella T for cleaning purposes?

I had an old mustang guy tell me that it might help to run Rotella T in my 94 GT 5.0 for a little while. Since the car had sat for 6 years. He said it had much higher detergent levels than other oils, so it should help to eat away some of the gunk. Do yall think this is true? Do you think my high mileage motor that sat for 6 years will benefit from Rotella T? Or should I just run some random full Synthetic like Royal purple or AMSoil?

Not really sure. I know it has more zinc in it than most other oils, about 1200 ppm if I remember right.

I run it in the 351w in my 68 because it has a flat tappet cam.

It probably doesn't make a shit in that motor. Run the correct viscosity and whatever brand is on sale is my motto.

Just fyi for those with flat tappets. The newer ci rating of Rotella will not have enough zinc and manganese to prolong a flat tappet cam. Run ZDDPlus or a Comp additive..

I actually also run a bottle of STP oil treatment (the blue bottle), it says right there on the front that it contains ZDDP. I omitted that from my first post.

I have to ask, why do you say "in that motor"? Is it because its a roller motor? At least, that would be my guess.

A V8 ford built in '94 doesn't care as much as say an LS9 or an Honda F22C1.

The man I purchased my 85gt from swore by it. He ran it in the car for years, and suggested I do the same. I figured if it has 158,000 miles on the factory drivetrain and still runs like a champ, I kinda owed it to the car to keep using it.
