  • Can't get 86 5.0 to start

Anyone want to help me out? I can't seem to get the car to start. It started and ran when I pulled it in. I replaced the master cylinder and it doesn't start. I have changed the battery(it was no bueno), the coil, and it seems like it is getting a spark. I am not sure how to test fuel pressure, but I do hear the pump turn on. I sprayed some carb cleaner in it to see what happens and it seemed to start for a split second.

    What should I do next?

There is a shrader valve on the fuel rail, check it and see if it has fuel

Fuel pump died, assuming it is coming on

I hear it come on... doesn't mean its not dead of course. Car has sat a while. Could bad fuel be a possible issue too?

I found the button for the inertia switch fell off. But it was like that before I parked it. So I don't know if that is a contributing factor or not. The pump hums.

If the line is plugged, how do I get it unplugged.

What is the easiest option to do first?

IF your pump is making noise, which doesn't necessarily mean its working, and you don't have fuel at the schrader valve, I'd move to the filter next. Unhook it, play it safe and attach a hose to the line and run it into a gas can. Hit the pump again and see if it's pumping. If not, drop the tank. Check the pump and the short hose between the pump and pickup tube. I have had 2 rupture over the years.

If you think the lines are clogged, unhook them at both ends and blow them out with compressed air.

Can you get to the fuel level sender without dropping tank on a 86?

Make sure there is gas in tank.

Just because it runs doesn't mean its pumping. Just did one monday at work that ran/ no fuel delivery. Either put a test gauge on the shrader or pull a line off and see what comes out the pump.

                            Well no.

Dropping the tank is easy as hell.

1/2 inch socket with a extension and a 5/16ths socket is all you need. Takes all of 30 minutes.

                            Or a 13mm and a 8mm
